🎯 Goal and client

With this adapted voice experience, Audible’s main goal was to bring to Spanish the experience it had built for its English-language Alexa skill on amazon.com, “Choose Your Own Adventure”.

There are five stories available, adapted into audiobooks by Audible from the original titles © Chooseco LLC:

  • New: El imperio Maya (The Mystery of the Maya) by R. A. Montgomery
  • El unicornio (The Unicorn) by Deborah Lerme Goodman
  • Aventura en el espacio (Space and Beyond) by R. A. Montgomery
  • El abominable hombre de las nieves (The Abominable Snowman) by R. A. Montgomery
  • Bajo el mar (Journey Under the Sea) by R. A. Montgomery

💬 Voice interaction

Say “Alexa, abre elige tu propia aventura” to choose one of the five stories from the original book series.

  • If you don’t like a decision you made, say “volver” (“go back”) to return to the previous scene.
  • If you want to hear the story again from the beginning, say “empezar” (“start”).
  • If you need help, just ask.
  • Your progress is also saved, so it remembers where you left off for next time.

💻 Which technologies and libraries did we use?

Amazon Alexa features:

  • APL to show images on devices with a screen and to choose the story.
  • SFB (Skill Flow Builder) to create interactive stories.

💎 How did we build this voice app?

We adapted the English-language Alexa skill into Spanish, reviewing the user understanding model (NLU) and integrating the audiobooks’ audiovisual content (narration and images) scene by scene. We also built the Alexa skill using Skill Flow Builder, Alexa’s tool for creating interactive stories, and ran tests with users.
