💬 Voice interaction
Open the app on Alexa with “Alexa, abre Veo Veo” (Veo Veo is the Spanish version of I Spy). First, pick a room, such as the living room, the kitchen, the bedroom or the bathroom. Then Alexa picks an object in that room and you have to guess it. She also remembers your record of correct guesses so you can beat it game after game. There are more than 100 objects in her house!
- If you want a reminder of how to play, say “ayuda” (“help”) or “cómo se juega” (“how do I play”) and she’ll explain the rules.
- You can switch rooms whenever you like by saying things like “cambia al salón” (“go to the living room”) or “vamos a jugar en el dormitorio” (“let’s play in the bedroom”).
- If a word is tricky, Alexa gives you a clue. And if you still can’t get it, you can change word by saying something like “otra cosita” (“something else”) or “cambiar de palabra” (“change word”).
- To leave the game, you can say “salir del juego”, “deja de jugar” or “parar”.
🎯 Goal
To experiment and learn. The goal was to create an entertaining, realistic experience that people of all ages would enjoy. We also set out to make the experience more fun and immersive, with sounds (earcons) and Alexa expressions (speechcons) that reinforce her personality.
🤖 Channel
- Amazon Alexa. A 100% voice-first experience for devices without a screen. If the device has a screen (multimodal), visual support helps with the experience and reduces cognitive load.
🌍 Reach: languages and countries.
Available in every country that uses Alexa in Spanish from Spain (es-ES), Mexico (es-MX) and the United States (es-US).
💻 Which technologies and libraries did we use?
Amazon Alexa features:
- APL for the full multimodal experience on devices with a screen.
- ISP (In-Skill Purchasing), not currently in use in the skill; it was implemented to buy a farm animals and objects pack by voice for €1.
💎 How did we build this voice app?
It was our first Alexa skill, launched in December 2018. We came up with the idea and defined the product, then designed the conversational experience and built the Alexa skill. Along the way, we went through several product iterations, adding features and content, each with beta testing with users and the resulting lessons and improvements.
We prioritized an excellent conversational experience, with personality, so players enjoy their interaction with Alexa. The experience is also robust to changes of context and to the different ways Alexa users express themselves.
🗓 Key dates
- 12/03/2018: Launch. Days spent improving the model that understands users (NLU).
- 11/12/2019: We enabled the purchase of the “farm objects and animals pack” with ISP, available for about ten months.
